When I initially started looking at hammocks as an alternative to tents, I was looking for a lightweight option that was easy to pack onto a motorbike.
The set-up I went with in the end is probably a little heavier than any tent I would have chosen – because a good all-round hammock system needs a tarp for rainy weather and an underquilt for cold nights whereas a tent does not. It is easy enough to pack onto my motorbike but the camping bag is not one I’d like to take with me for a hike or a bicycle ride, so I’ve been looking at ways to have a lighter set-up for a while now.
I needn’t have bothered! DD Hammocks’ are clearly mind readers and have been working behind the scenes to create the world’s lightest hammock camping sleep system. And they’ve been kind enough to let me have it so I can show it to everyone.
This thing is incredibly light and the optional ‘Action Pack’ also has room for a sleeping bag, or whatever else you might want to carry – the whole kit weighs less than one of my camera lenses and packs up almost as small!

As much as I’m excited about testing this new Superlight Hammock system, I’m still in love with the DD Jungle Hammock. In fact the way I now pack it makes it look like the biggest, most unwieldy hammock in the world compared with this superlight system. Have a look at this video to see what I mean and why I still love it anyway:
